How do I get started with Dojo Islands?
Getting your class on Dojo Islands is easy (here’s a quick video). Dojo Islands is designed to be collaborative, so activities tend to be more fun in groups. It’s also why teachers use it to get students working and creating together (check out these readymade learning activities for ideas on how to get started). Many teachers start by introducing their class to Dojo Islands on a Friday, but it’s entirely up to you.
Is Dojo Islands safe for kids?
Kids’ safety is our top priority on Dojo Islands. Only classmates verified by a teacher have access (that means no strangers, ever). Chats on Dojo Islands are also limited to a few select choices, keeping the island vibe friendly and positive.
What can kids do on Dojo Islands?
Dojo Islands builds close-knit classroom communities by encouraging kids to explore, play, and build things together. We’re adding new features all the time, so your class shapes what it becomes. If you have any suggestions, we’d love to hear from you.

How do kids move around on Dojo Islands?
Getting around on Dojo Islands is super-simple. On the web:
- Use the arrow keys or WASD to move, or click anywhere to walk there (double-click to run)
- Hit space to jump
- Change the camera angle by holding right-click while dragging the mouse/ trackpad.
- Drag the joystick in the bottom-left to move, or tap anywhere to walk there (double-tap to run)
- Tap the up-arrow button in the bottom-right corner to jump
- Drag on the screen to rotate the camera angle up, down, left or right.
I’m a teacher. What control do I have over Dojo Islands?
Teachers have full control over their students’ use of Dojo Islands during class hours. To disable access, use your teacher account. Go to: Classroom → Options → Edit Class → Settings. (If your class still has access, check that your timezone is correct.)
I’m a parent. What control do I have over Dojo Islands?
Parents can help kids access their account by clicking on the account switcher. Kids access Dojo Islands by logging into their ClassDojo accounts and selecting the Dojo Islands button (more about student accounts here). Parents can turn off Dojo Islands by going to the settings on their account. Parents can’t currently interact on Dojo Islands.

Dojo Islands is great for kids in K–6th grade. For Kindergarteners, Dojo Islands is particularly useful for helping improve fine motor skills.
